Second-hand car exports are becoming more and more popular
In 2019, the country officially launched the export of used cars. China exported 6,900 used cars in 2020 and 15,000 in 2021; According to the China Automobile Dealers Association, the export volume of used cars has exceeded 16,000 in the first half of this year.
Luo Lei said that an important reason for the growing trend of used car exports is the support and guidance of policies. In May this year, The General Office of the State Council issued Opinions on Promoting the Stability and Quality of Foreign Trade, which clearly mentioned that more regions should be supported to carry out second-hand car export business, expand the scale of second-hand car export and improve the quality of second-hand car export.
Luo Lei said that from the first batch of 10 regions in 2019 to expand the scope to 30 regions in 2020, the whole range of export enterprises is wider, the policy is gradually improved, for example, the export license from one car one license to a lot of one license, further simplified the used car export process, creating a convenient environment for export. This policy is more effective than subsidies.
In addition, according to Luo Lei, another important reason for the increase of used car exports is the increase of new energy used car exports. Since this year, the situation has changed. Most export target countries set higher tariffs on fuel vehicles, and the export of new energy passenger vehicles has become a breakthrough. 90% of passenger vehicles are new energy vehicles.
Luo further explained that many countries have tariff restrictions on the import of used cars of different years and emission levels, but almost zero tariff for new energy used cars. In recent years, the new energy automobile industry of our country is developing in full swing, objectively also leading to the export of new energy used cars.
Xu Haidong, deputy chief engineer of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, believes that China's used car export has market prospects, one is rich in vehicle resources, two is the overseas market space, and with the expansion of the scope of the third batch of pilot, can further promote China's used car export.
In addition, while the export volume of second-hand car increases significantly, the average unit price of exported second-hand car is also rising significantly. According to the China Automobile Dealers Association, the export price of used cars in China has increased from less than $5,000 in 2019 to nearly $15,000 in 2021.
