China's exports of goods reached 7.67 trillion yuan in the first four months of this year, up 10.6 percent year on year, according to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs. Among them, the performance of automobile exports is particularly bright. Data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that Chinese auto companies exported 376,000 vehicles in April, up 1.7 times from a year earlier, continuing the rapid growth.
More than 10,000 cars of various brands are waiting to be shipped out to sea at a ro-ro dock at Waigaoqiao Port in Shanghai on May 12. So far this year, busy loading of vehicles has become a regular feature at the docks.
Chen Jia, Chief of the 9th Section of Customs Inspection of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port: In the first quarter of 2023, Haitong Terminal continued the strong momentum of last year's automobile export exceeding one million units, and completed 231,000 foreign automobile export in total, of which new energy vehicles accounted for 40% of the total export. Export routes cover Europe, Southeast Asia, South America and the Middle East.
On May 11, at another port in Shanghai, 27 brand new domestic pure electric buses were also shipped overseas. It is also the first time for the terminal to undertake the export business of new energy buses. With the increasing demand for automobile export, the reporter noticed that some captains who used to drive bulk cargo ships at the port are now turning to car roll-on roll-off ships.
Captain Qu Xiao: Nearly 200 new energy vehicles were transported on this voyage. It is a little more demanding in operation than bulk carriers. The transportation market for new energy vehicles is also growing rapidly, so the demand for talent in this area.
