Second Industry Workshop on Remanufacturing Standards for Exported Used Trucks Held in Snail Truck

Liangshan, March 10, 2024 – The second seminar on the group standard "Technical Specifications for Export-oriented Remanufacturing of Used Trucks" was successfully convened today in Liangshan, Shandong Province. Hosted by the Used Car Export Branch of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce Automobile Dealers Chamber of Commerce, the event was held at Snail Truck Web Co., Ltd. More than 40 delegates from government departments, customs, industry associations, universities, and key enterprises gathered to jointly explore the standardized development path for the export remanufacturing of used trucks, aiming to solidify the technical foundation for China's used commercial vehicles' expansion into global markets.

Government-Industry-Academia-Research Synergy: A New Chapter for the Industry

The seminar received strong support from the Liangshan County Government and Jining Customs. Mr. Zhang Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of Liangshan County and Deputy County Head, Mr. Wang Yan, Section Chief of Inspection Section III, Jining Customs, and other officials attended and expressed their support for the industry's high-quality development. Experts and scholars, including Mr. Chen Haifeng, President of the Used Car Export Branch, and Professor Yan Shengyu from Chang'an University, participated in the discussions, creating a collaborative "government-industry-academia-research-application" environment. Major truck manufacturers, including FAW Jiefang, Dongfeng, Sinotruk, Shaanxi Auto, Foton, and Geely Commercial Vehicles, were also present.

In-Depth Standard Discussion: Fortifying the Technical Foundation
Professor Yan Shengyu from Chang'an University introduced the background and industry significance of the standard, highlighting challenges such as technical adaptation, quality control, and international compliance. He emphasized the standard's key role in regulating the market and enhancing competitiveness. Subsequently, industry expert Hao Shijie interpreted the draft standard, focusing on the remanufacturing process, repair standards for critical components, export adaptation requirements, and safety and environmental control.
Addressing Core Industry Pain Points

The discussions pointed to several critical issues currently hindering the export of used trucks, which the standard aims to address:

1) Inconsistent vehicle quality and a lack of minimum quality baselines;

2) Lack of reference standards and consensus on remanufacturing quality;

3) Insufficient industry guidance and regulation;

4) Failure to ensure the bottom line of reliability and safety;

5) Low-level refurbishment practices needing elevation to true remanufacturing standards;

6) Absence of a flexible, adaptive approach suitable for varied overseas markets;

7) Significant differences in overseas regulations, climate, road conditions, and fuel quality requiring tailored solutions.

Outlook and Significance
The successful conclusion of this seminar marks a critical phase in the standard's development. Participants unanimously agreed that the introduction of this group standard will effectively fill an industry gap. It is expected to standardize the remanufacturing process for used trucks, significantly improve the quality and safety of export vehicles, and ultimately enhance the international reputation and competitiveness of China's used commercial vehicle sector, paving the way for its high-quality development in global markets.
